A newsletter for members and friends of UCT North America            Spring 2025

Springtime Greetings from the Desk of UCTNA President Doug Honeyford

This past weekend many of us moved the clocks forward with daylight savings time, and next Thursday we all welcome the first day of Spring, so a new season begins and with it, renewals.  Soon the sound of birds chirping and children playing outdoors will fill the air.  Many Councils and Regions are holding elections for those who will direct activities during the next fiscal year.  To all of you who let your name stand for office, I thank you, for it is you and your associates who are the face of UCTNA in your community, you are the driving force, the boots on the ground, People Helping People.

I am sure by now that you all know we are holding our International Convention in Columbus July 14-16 and I would like to welcome you to this informative and fun filled event.  It will give everyone the opportunity to visit with old friends, get all the latest news and updates from UCTNA, pick up and share ideas on Council growth and fund raising, and share in our vision for the future.  Tap into our information section on the website and please share this information with your friends who may not have the availability or contacts. There is also a Zoom option for those unable to be with us in person.  Everyone should register as soon as possible.

It seems I am always asking for your assistance, but there are a couple of issues I need you to help with right away.  The first is, please check and be certain your Membership is paid to date.  Any Insurance product you may have had in the past is no longer in force with UCTNA and is separate from your Membership dues.  Next and very important, follow up with your Council friends and be certain they have retained their membership and that we have their email details, we can’t communicate if we don’t have their details.

Thank you for all you do, the sum total of all your collective efforts never ceases to amaze me, it is such an honor to be associated with so many wonderful people.  Please email me at dhoneyford@uctnorthamerica.org with any thoughts or ideas, questions and suggestions.

Fraternally,
Doug

UCTNA STAR COUNCIL PROGRAM can provide extra cash to active councils

As you may already know, the UCT North America Board of Directors has authorized a new incentive program to monetarily benefit local councils similar to the former Medal of Honor Program. This new program is called UCT North America Star Council Program.

The Board encourages all councils to participate in this program. The program's goal is to help councils be active in their communities as well as earn award money to support local councils and their activities as they wish.

This is your council's opportunity to earn award money to use as you see fit, support council activities or support your local community, it's up to your council. It's not too late to get in on the action! The program runs annually from January 1 to December 31.

If you have any questions concerning the Star Council Program, please contact John Thompson at jthompson@uctnorthamerica.org.

Please note: Participants in this program must have an account established with UCT North America Club Express. If your council does not have an account and wishes to participate in this program, please contact Glen Suever at gsuever@uctnorthamerica.org. Glen will help you set up your account.

Start planning today and become a STAR COUNCIL of UCT North America.

Ann Marshall Scholarship Program Application deadline is fast approaching

As you may already know, the UCTNA Board of Directors reactivated the Ann Marshall Scholarship Program to U.S. members. The Ann Marshall Scholarship Program is designed to award college scholarships to the children and grandchildren of UCTNA members. The program is supported through donations, and the number and amount of scholarships given each year may vary according to contributions received. Applicants must meet specific guidelines.

UCT North America needs your help!

Have you ever wanted to have influence in the way things are going? To have your voice heard, and be a guiding inspiration? If so, UCT North America can be your outlet. We are looking for energetic people to serve in various roles ranging from serving on a committee, to taking on a more active role in your local or regional council or even serving as a member of the Board of Directors.

In our former organization, we were blessed to have a home office in Columbus that made running our order so effortless. UCTNA does not have that luxury yet and is doing day-to-day operations with a small volunteer staff. We have had members step up into roles and for that I am eternally grateful. Without their efforts, running our organization would be next to impossible. But they cannot do it all themselves and I am putting out the call to action for our membership.

If you have a particular skill or interest, please reach out to one of the current Board members and let them know. We may be looking for someone with your skillset to help us out. If you have ever had an inkling to be a Board member, I would encourage you to reach out to me and let me know.

We have members of the current Board that have given a great many years of their lives to being a Board member and are ready for the next voice to step in and fill their role. Speaking from experience, being a Board member for many years myself, I can tell you that it has been an extremely rewarding experience that I will always have and cherish. I have made friendships, connecting with people that I otherwise probably would not have connected with prior, and learned many things about myself and how an organization is run. Please consider being a Board member, even if you served as a Board member in our previous organization. We can use your invaluable expertise and wisdom in forging ahead as UCTNA.

So please take a minute to consider taking on an active role in UCTNA. To paraphrase President Kennedy, “Ask not what UCTNA can do for you, but rather what you can do for UCTNA.”

If you have questions or are interested in becoming a board member, please contact Dave Van Order, UCTNA Chairman of the Board at dvanorder@uctnorthamerica.org.

We want to know what you're doing. To publicize your council events in an upcoming issue of UCTNA in Action, please email us pictures and a brief description of your volunteer events to David Knapp at dknapp@uctnorthamerica.org
