A newsletter for members and friends of UCT North America - Spring/Summer 2025

Greetings from the desk of UCTNA President Doug Honeyford

Fraternal Brothers and Sisters as June approaches it looks like Summer is upon us all. Those of us who reside in the Northern areas love this time of year, the flowers, the birds, and of course the lovely weather that takes us to the great outdoors, golf courses, and our abundant lakes.  I hope winter was kind to you and for those fortunate enough to travel, that you have wonderful memories.

Your UCTNA Board Members have had a very busy year, not an easy one, setting a New Beginning and like a Phoenix rising from the ashes. Rebuilding our wonderful organization has been to say the least challenging.  I am so fortunate to work with such dedicated people who possess the knowledge and skills to accomplish so much in such a short period of time.

In a few short weeks many of you will join us as we meet in person in Columbus and those unable to travel will join us online by Zoom as we share with everyone the programs we have been able to reinstate – the Ann Marshall Scholarship for example, plus new programs and incentives to assist your Council get back on its feet.  If you have any ideas, suggestions, or comments you would like shared, please email me so I can fit everything in to our program.  Again, a reminder of the dates is July 14-16. You should immediately register for the conference and if you are able join us in person book your room right away with Embassy Suites.  Registration for Zoom attendees is “free of charge,” however, you still need to register.

Councils and Regions have been holding elections and I wish to thank everyone who put their name forward for election to help steer the direction you will take this year.  We all realize that it is the local councils and their members who make everything happen and we want to help recognize your accomplishments. Please keep us informed, send copies of your newsletters, send us an email, and share the wonderful things your council is doing.  What you do in Florida can help a council in Oregon while what happens in New England might work in Texas.

Today I would like to remind everyone to explore the information on UCTNA.org and scroll through the menu topics. Find out about the benefits of membership, the discounts and perks.  Learn more about education sessions on Club Express.  Learn more about our available scholarships and share that knowledge with other members.  Go through your member rosters and contact your old friends and see if they have renewed with UCTNA.  Help us by getting everyone’s email address, their current contact information, and let’s get all our old friends involved again. We can only contact those that we have updated information available.

In closing today, I want to thank you for your membership, I want to thank you for all you do, and I hope to see you in Columbus in person, or at least by Zoom.  Old friends are one of life’s treasures.

Please email me at dhoneyford@uctnorthamerica.org with any thoughts or ideas, questions and suggestions.

Fraternally,
Doug

Check out UCTNA's new forum pages

Forums have been around since the early days of the internet and have remained an important part of online communities. They provide a platform for people to connect and engage in discussions on various topics.

One of the key benefits of forums is the ability to provide a space for open dialogue and feedback, allowing us to actively listen and respond to customer concerns.

Forums provide a platform for members to connect with each other, share their thoughts, suggestions, and concerns and can act as a self-service support platform, where members can find answers to common questions and troubleshoot issues on their own.

UCTNA has posted several forums on the UCTNA website that cover a range of topics that we think will benefit members and officers alike. Here is a list of the topics in which you can participate:

VP Forum: This is a Forum to share questions and thoughts with the International Vice President. This will be an area to share your thoughts and Ideas.

Technical Question Forum: Conversation on functions and services provided by the ClubExpress web hosting service.

Public Questions: Questions about UCT, who are we, what we do, how to become active in a local council.

Secretary-Treasurer's Forum: Conversations on Local & Regional processes and concerns of the officers of these positions. This forum is available to members only.

Fundraising Ideas: Through in you best ideas on fund raising and let's get some good conversations going.

To find the UCTNA forums simply go to www.uctna.org. Forums will be listed under the Latest News menu heading or by clicking the Forums icon under Quick Links on the Home Page. Choose a forum in the list, then join in on an existing thread or start a new thread. Use the Search button to find topics that may already be in the forums archive.

We hope you find this feature beneficial as a member or as a local council officer. Let us know what you think by sending an email to info@uctnorthamerica.org.

UCTNA STAR COUNCIL PROGRAM can provide extra cash to active councils

As you may already know, the UCT North America Board of Directors has authorized a new incentive program to monetarily benefit local councils similar to the former Medal of Honor Program. This new program is called UCT North America Star Council Program.

The Board encourages all councils to participate in this program. The program's goal is to help councils be active in their communities as well as earn award money to support local councils and their activities as they wish.

This is your council's opportunity to earn award money to use as you see fit, support council activities or support your local community, it's up to your council. It's not too late to get in on the action! The program runs annually from January 1 to December 31.

If you have any questions concerning the Star Council Program, please contact John Thompson at jthompson@uctnorthamerica.org.

Please note: Participants in this program must have an account established with UCT North America Club Express. If your council does not have an account and wishes to participate in this program, please contact Glen Suever at gsuever@uctnorthamerica.org. Glen will help you set up your account.

Start planning today and become a STAR COUNCIL of UCT North America.

UCT North America needs your help!

Have you ever wanted to have influence in the way things are going? To have your voice heard, and be a guiding inspiration? If so, UCT North America can be your outlet. We are looking for energetic people to serve in various roles ranging from serving on a committee, to taking on a more active role in your local or regional council or even serving as a member of the Board of Directors.

In our former organization, we were blessed to have a home office in Columbus that made running our order so effortless. UCTNA does not have that luxury yet and is doing day-to-day operations with a small volunteer staff. We have had members step up into roles and for that I am eternally grateful. Without their efforts, running our organization would be next to impossible. But they cannot do it all themselves and I am putting out the call to action for our membership.

If you have a particular skill or interest, please reach out to one of the current Board members and let them know. We may be looking for someone with your skillset to help us out. If you have ever had an inkling to be a Board member, I would encourage you to reach out to me and let me know.

We have members of the current Board that have given a great many years of their lives to being a Board member and are ready for the next voice to step in and fill their role. Speaking from experience, being a Board member for many years myself, I can tell you that it has been an extremely rewarding experience that I will always have and cherish. I have made friendships, connecting with people that I otherwise probably would not have connected with prior, and learned many things about myself and how an organization is run. Please consider being a Board member, even if you served as a Board member in our previous organization. We can use your invaluable expertise and wisdom in forging ahead as UCTNA.

So please take a minute to consider taking on an active role in UCTNA. To paraphrase President Kennedy, “Ask not what UCTNA can do for you, but rather what you can do for UCTNA.”

If you have questions or are interested in becoming a board member, please contact Dave Van Order, UCTNA Chairman of the Board at dvanorder@uctnorthamerica.org.

We want to know what you're doing. To publicize your council events in an upcoming issue of UCTNA in Action, please email us pictures and a brief description of your volunteer events to David Knapp at dknapp@uctnorthamerica.org
